Sandmeyer Steel
Company: Duplex Stainless Steel
Sandmeyer Steel Company is a leading
supplier of duplex stainless steel plates and a major
manufacturer of duplex stainless steel plate products.
Regardless of your application, Sandmeyer Steel Company
is certain to stock the plate you need. The properties
of duplex stainless steel are similar to that of austenitic
stainless steel but offer enhanced corrosion resistance
and improved mechanical properties. Please visit the
Stainless Steel
Plate Inventory page to see the thicknesses of our
duplex plates or continue reading to learn about our
various grades.
2205 Duplex
Stainless Steel Plate
Composed of 22% chromium, 5-6% nickel, and 3% molybdenum,
alloy 2205 is known for excellent impact, yield, and
fatigue strengths as well as corrosion resistance, both
general and localized. Compared to austenitic alloys
316L and 317L, 2205 duplex
stainless steel plate has a superior resistance to pitting
and crevice corrosion, low thermal expansion and high
thermal conductivity properties, and a yield strength
that is about twice as high. These properties make alloy
2205 valuable in industries where an engineer needs
to save weight yet retain performance in a mechanical
or structural component. 2205 duplex stainless steel
performs best in temperatures ranging from -50°F
to over 600°F.
2304 Duplex
Stainless Steel Plate
A molybdenum-free alloy containing 23% chromium and
4% nickel, 2304 duplex stainless steel plate is similar
to alloy 316L and 304 in corrosion resistance but has
mechanical properties, such as yield strength, that
make it superior for use in pressure vessel applications
when saving weight is a critical factor. Alloy 2304
is also known for resisting pitting and crevice corrosion,
even in the presence of caustic solutions and organic
acids. The working temperature range of duplex 2304
stainless steel plate is as low as -58°F and as
high as 572°F. Alloy 2304 may be used in lower temperatures,
but certain restrictions, such as its use in welded
structures, must be carefully examined.
2507 Super
Duplex Stainless Steel Plate
SAF 2507® super duplex stainless steel plate is
a proprietary metal that is 25% chromium, 7% nickel,
and 4% molybdenum. When exceptional strength and corrosion
resistance (including localized pitting, crevice corrosion,
and chloride stress corrosion cracking) is necessary,
such as in chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical,
and desalinization processing, alloy 2507 is the clear
choice. With high thermal conductivity, a low thermal
expansion coefficient, and an operating temperature
up to 570°F, this duplex stainless steel plate is
an excellent choice for heat exchangers.
